COMPOSER VINH TUAN

- Born on 26/03/1946 in Hue.

- Guided by his mother to study how to play the Vietnamese 16-chord zither when he was a child.

- In 1966, he graduated from the Saigon National Musicology School in charinette and Chinese 4-chord lute.

- In 1967, he was a lecturer in Hue’s National Musicology School.

- In 1970, he founded the Vietnamese two-chord guitar center.
(restored and brought into play the national musicology).

- In 1972, he exhibited his personal artistic pictures, sponsored by the French Cultural Center, in which there was the theme “The resplended beauty of female teenagers in the ancient capital through Musician Vinh Tuan’s look” which was pulished.

- In 1974, he was on tour of clarinette performance with the piano accompaniment of W.Laurent, an American famous player. Items of Vietnamese 16-chord zither and Vietnamese 4-chord zither solo performances were inserted to introduce the interesting and beautiful traits of the traditional Vietnamese music.

- In 1975, he stayed at home, wrote books and composed music. After 2 years, he completed three volumes:

· The summary history of Vietnamese age-old music instruments.
· Method of Vietnamese scientific musical notation.
· To follow the footprints of poetry (collection of 30 love poems set to music).

- In 1978, he was invited by Hue Teacher’s Training College to teach the subject “The popular literature”.

- In 1982, he went into Hochiminh city to learn carpentry and pumice lacquer inlaid with mother-of-pearl to make various types of popular musical instruments.
- In 1990, he went to the woods and exploited 50,000 square meters of land to make rice- fields, land for cultivation and built a house beside a stream. He has stably lived there till now.

- In 1992, he travelld throughout Vietnam by motorbike to make motion picture “ The beautiful sights of Vietnam”, through the sound of the Vietnamese 16- chord zither, sponsored by Vietnam Record Company.

- In 1993, he completed the video tape “The Vietnamese 16-chord zither self teaching”.

- In 1994, he conducted the Vietnamese 16-chord zither solo performance “Hue’s age old famous literary works”, recorded and pulished by Vietnam Music Pulishing House.

- In 1995, he conducted the solo performance of the Chinese 4-chord zither of “The one’s enthusiasm feeling part”.

In the process of manufacturing various musical instruments (1982-1995),many musical instruments of his were used by artists. Presently, he still has 50 zithers made of pumice lacquer inlaid with mother-of –pearl exhibited in his “House beside the stream” in “TAN TRANH VIEN” in Long Thanh Dist., Dong Nai Province.
